Early Bio, Biography:SONNY --In 1954 Sonny moves to Los Angelos, California. He gets a job at Douglas Aircraft; and then at Specialty Records as a record packer. He writes a song called "Highschool Dance"(note: good song!). It is put onto the flip side of the hit record, "Short Fat Fanny" sung by Larry Williams. He writes other songs with some success, including "Koko Joe" sung by The Righteous Brothers. He also records/sings under the following names, Don Christy, Sonny Christie and Ronny Sommers. In 1962 Sonny co-writes the song "Needles and Pins" with Jack Nitzsche which is recorded by Jackie DeShannon. Sonny Bono works as a promoter in record sales for producer Phil Spector.
CHER --In 1962 Cherilyn meets Sonny in a Coffee shop. Sonny introduces her to producer Phil Spector; and she gets a job as back up singer for the Ronettes.
SONNY AND CHER --By 1963, they begin to sing together under the names of Caesar and Cleo. They marry in 1964. They release two Caesar and Cleo singles under the Reprise label -- "Baby Don't Go" and "Love is Strange". In 1965 they begin to use their own names--Sonny and Cher. They sign a contract with Atlantic Records and release"I Got You Babe", written and produced by Sonny.
