Marilyn Monroe biography / bio:

Birth Certificate info: Born, Norma Jeane Mortensen in L.A. Father, Martin Edward Mortensen. Mother, Gladys Monroe Baker.

(Note: Norma Jeane grows up fatherless and uses her mother's last name, Baker).

Gladys loses her job at a film lab and suffers a nervous breakdown; and is diagnosed as paranoid schizoophrenia. Norma Jeane spends her childhood in and out of 11 foster homes, and spends some time in an orphanage.

Her mother's friend, Grace McKee, becomes guardian for both Gladys and Norma Jeane. At the age of 11 Norma Jeane lives with Grace and her husband Erwin Goddard. While staying with the Goddards, Norma Jean meets and then marries a next door neighbor, Jim Dougherty.

Norma Jeane's husband is sent to sea duty, and she gets a job working at the Aircraft factory. While working she is photographed by an army photographer. She begins taking modeling jobs. In 1946 she quits her job at the airline factory to become a full time model. Norma Jeane and Jim Dougherty divorce, and she pursues a Hollywood acting career.

She gets a contract with 20th Century Fox and changes her name to Marilyn Monroe. After several years of playing small parts in movies, her career begins to take off. In 1953, she stars in "How to Marry a Millionare", and becomes a movie star of celebrity status.

Other marriages: Joe Dimaggio(1954), Arthur Miller(1956).

On August 5, 1962, Marilyn Monroe is found dead in her home in Los Angeles. Cause of death: drug overdose.
