THERE IS A SONG that goes, "But the greatest thing you'll ever learn, is just to love and be loved in return."  It's a beautiful song and I have sung it to myself often--but the part that haunts me is that passage about love.

I've heard guys and girls talk about how wonderful is the feeling of first romance.  I've heard them tell about the thrills and happiness they are learning to find through the love of another person.  And I listen, always curious and enchanted--but also with a sense of loneliness.  I just can't help it.  I feel what they are talking about, and I understand

heart, but it's something that I honestly know nothing about.

You see, I've never been in love.

Perhaps, in this life, what you want and what you get are two different things.  It seems to be so in my case.  The very first encounter I ever had with a girl in a serious way was disastrous for me--and maybe I am still carrying the scars deep down inside.

When I was in Junior High School I developed my first real crush--yep, fellows get them too!    She was a cute girl, and quite popular.  Anyway, after hemming around for a couple of weeks, I decided to try to approach her.

When the big moment came, I almost lost my nerve.  I know girls think they are the only ones who suffer from shyness.  But, believe me, it is just as real for boys .
